Being on the west side of Petaluma means these communities are some of the closest within the Petaluma area to California’s rugged Pacific coastline.

Liberty Valley and Two Rock combine a charming agricultural landscape with proximity to California’s rugged Pacific coast. Two Rock is home to the Coast Guard Training Center Petaluma, an 800-acre facility where around 4,000 students train every year to become Coast Guard Petty Officers and U.S. Air Force Master Sergeants.

Two Rock 4-H Club is another major local institution where youngsters can receive mentorship to help them develop a wide range of skills. Many of the programs at Two Rock 4-H Club focus on the skills needed to become an expert in agricultural fields such as caring for dairy cattle, horses, goats, sheep, swine, and poultry. There are also projects focused on archery, citizenship, cooking, gardening, outdoor adventure, and more. 

Petaluma was once known as the egg capital of the world and much of the area’s average annual production of 10 million eggs took place in these rural communities. Many properties throughout both Liberty Valley and Two Rock feature historic chicken barns. Petaluma Organic Creamery is a producer of fine artisanal and organic cheeses which has operated in this area since 1913. Visitors to the Petaluma Creamery can sample the finest quality cheeses as well as butter, ice cream, milk, and eggs. There’s also an on-site café serving handmade sandwiches, burritos, pastries, and doughnuts. Garden Valley Ranch is another organic farm featuring 8,000 rosebushes across five acres of beautiful fields and gardens. Visitors can enjoy a picnic and flower foraging experience or buy gorgeous roses from the Garden Valley Ranch Nursery.

Things to Do

These charming agricultural communities are known for great pumpkin patches such as the Petaluma Pumpkin Patch and Amazing Corn Maze. The pumpkin patch here stretches across five acres and the corn stalks forming the amazing maze rise to around 10 feet in height. This delightful fall tradition also includes pony rides, farm animals, a corn kernel sandbox, and a climbable straw mountain consisting of more than 500 bales of straw. 

​​​​​​​On the same working farm as the Petaluma Organic Creamery, the Great Peter Pumpkin Patch invites guests to cut down their own pumpkins straight from the vine. The fun activities here include corn and hay mazes, free hay wagon rides, music, mouthwatering BBQ, and homemade pumpkin ice cream. There’s also the chance to sample the Petaluma Creamery’s signature artisanal cheeses.
