This small downtown is home to a big community with businesses that are closely connected to the surrounding agricultural lands of Sonoma County.

Local Lifestyle
Penngrove is a small community of around 2,800 residents. This quaint community has a delightfully old-fashioned small-town feel. Penngrove first developed around a freight station on the Northwestern Pacific Railroad. By the early 20th Century, Penngrove had become a thriving agricultural community. Along with nearby Petaluma, Penngrove was one of the largest egg producers in the entire United States. This rich history is everywhere you look in Penngrove. Well-preserved historic buildings fill the town and Penngrove is also home to the oldest school in the Petaluma School District. Penngrove’s compact downtown packs an outstanding mix of local shops and restaurants into a tiny area.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
Penngrove’s delightful downtown area is small in size but big in community spirit. Penngrove Market is much more than just a neighborhood grocery store; it’s a hub of the community which actively collaborates with local farmers and artisans. The shelves inside are stocked with fresh seasonal produce and unique locally made products. Penngrove Market also has a wood-burning kitchen offering delicious ready-to-eat meals prepared with fresh local ingredients. The building housing Penngrove Market has been a community hub for 150 years. Since 1872, this historic building served as a railroad station, general store, post office, and hardware store before becoming Penngrove Market.
Twin Oaks Roadhouse is another longtime cornerstone of the Penngrove community. In continuous operation since 1926, this classic tavern serves tasty pub grub alongside beers, wines, and cocktails. This inviting space also hosts frequent live music performances. Wind & Rye Kitchen offers a range of culinary experiences alongside farm-to-table dining. Located on a private farm in the heart of Penngrove, Wind & Rye hosts classes on cooking and food growing while the kitchen prepares special meals using ingredients grown on the farm. Hello Penngrove is an inspiring shop bringing joy to Penngrove through gifts, books, toys, and celebration supplies.

Things to Do
The Penngrove Fourth of July Parade is known as the “Biggest Little Parade in Northern California.” This annual extravaganza begins with a pancake breakfast at the Rancho Adobe Fire Station. This is followed by a big parade through Main Street featuring vintage military Jeeps, tractors, horses, floats, bicycle teams, and marching bands. In the afternoon, parade participants and spectators enjoy an old-fashioned pit BBQ with beef, chicken, oysters, and hot dogs. There are also lots of fun activities including games for kids and live music.
